Bali – Komodo Dragon Adventure

Get up close to the famed Komodo dragon as well as a kaleidoscope of colorful fish, playful monkeys and pink-sand beaches.

Immerse yourself in the culture of Bali and sail around the islands of Komodo National Park.

The Place and The People

A chain of thousands of volcanic islands with hundreds of ethnic groups, languages and religions, Indonesia is a country of immense diversity. It is also home to an array of wildlife including monkeys, colorful tropical fish and the world’s largest lizard, the Komodo Dragon. Over the course of 10 days, we’ll split our time between two of Indonesia’s most colorful islands – Bali and Flores.

Every day is an epic adventure. Explore the exotic islands of Komodo National Park by boat, uncover the lush green rice paddies and Hindu temples of Bali and relax on tropical beaches in the midst of distant volcanoes.

What You'll Do

Arrive in Bali, an island where towering volcanoes meet turquoise waters surrounded by colorful reefs. Here, you’ll be based in the artistic community of Ubud. Inspire local children through a community-run education program. Share ideas, create art, play games, and teach English while volunteering at a local school.

Take a short hour-long flight to the island of Flores where we’ll board a boat and spend the second half of the trip scouting for Komodo dragons along the beaches of Komodo National Park. Learn about these curious creatures while sailing along waters known for sea turtles and manta rays.

What You'll See

Delve into the relaxed Balinese lifestyle. Explore local markets and marvel at the colorful fruits, vegetables, and spices. Watch monkeys play overhead and uncover centuries old terraced rice paddies. Don a sarong, make an offering, and then bathe alongside the friendly Balinese people in the waters of a temple. Visit a local banjar, or community center, to learn Balinese arts such as Gamelan music, Legong dance, and woodcarving.

Then head south to Flores to experience another side of Indonesia where Komodo dragons relax on the white sand beaches and traditional life continues to persist. While exploring the Komodo National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, learn about the world’s largest lizard while snorkeling over the colorful reefs in search of sea turtles and manta rays.

Traveler's Journal

I traveled to Indonesia to experience its fascinating culture and people.  While the trip was full of fun cultural activities, I also felt engaged with the local community and inspired by the lengths being taken to protect its wildlife.

I had been to Bali before, but this was a completely different experience with Discover Corps. It really allowed me to feel like an insider. Lending a hand at a local school and traveling off the beaten track to Flores and Komodo National Park were bucket list items. Thank you for this unforgettable adventure.
