Thailand - Wildlife Safari | Nature & Wildlife Adventure with Discover Corps

Thailand – Wildlife Safari

Bathe elephants in their natural habitat, lend a hand alongside conservationists at a sea turtle project, and learn from a center dedicated to introducing gibbons back into nature.

When you’re not spending time with wildlife, island hop across the crystal blue waters that make Thailand unforgettable.

The Place and The People

Thailand’s rainforests and mountain slopes are home to a fantastic array of wildlife – from Asian elephants to gibbons and sea turtles. Home to the oldest evergreen rainforest in the world, huge limestone mountains that shoot up into the air, deep valleys, clear-blue lakes, and ominous caves, it is a place full of excitement and beauty.

This will be a journey across Thailand’s tropical islands and natural interior experiencing the country’s wildlife and culture first-hand. Zip over to Koh Yao Yai where you will be greeted by the local people eager to teach you about more than just Thailand’s wildlife. Learn about the ecosystem and lifestyle of the village, experience the local cuisine, and try your hand at making soap or oil treatment with the help of the locals.

What You'll Do

Find yourself deep in the lush rainforest at The Gibbon Rehabilitation Center, and learn about their efforts to introduce Gibbons back into nature before hiking up to a nearby waterfall to swim and soak in breathtaking panoramic views. Spend your afternoons interacting with elephants in their natural habitat (even bathe them in the river!) and help prepare food for sea turtles at The Sea Turtle Conservancy Center (STCC). Spend an afternoon in Phuket with gentle rafting on Kiang Koo Creek. By night, meander through the streets on of Phuket’s Old Town.

Leave the city for island life as you take a speedboat over to crystal clear waters of Koh Yao Yai, Hong Island, James Bond Island, Panak and Lawa Island. Snorkel, swim, learn to make oils with the locals, explore the Diamond Cave, and spot wildlife along the way!

What You'll See

Experience the jungle and the coast of Southern Thailand by visiting ethically-responsible programs working to conserve and protect the wildlife the region is known for, including gibbons, elephants, and sea turtles. When you’re not spending time spotting wildlife, you’ll enjoy breathtaking panoramic views over the island’s three main beaches – Kata Noi, Kata (stop to swim!), and Karon – and gaze across the Andaman Sea where the horizon meets the sky. By night, immerse yourself in the spiritual heart of Phuket at the largest temple in the city, the Chalong Temple, and explore the street markets and local Thai street food.

After zipping across the turquoise waters to the islands off the coast of Thailand on a speedboat, discover the secret nature of the Mangrove Cave & Diamond Cave at Panak Island and explore the Mangrove Forest at Lawa Island.

Traveler's Journal

“What drew me to this trip was the variety of wildlife interaction while also being given free time to explore. I knew it would be necessary for my children to keep interested, and they absolutely loved it! Gibbons one day and sea turtles the next, I thought it was such a unique way to see Thailand.”
