The Experience
A place of mysticism & wonder, Morocco is known for its picturesque mountain views and unique blend of ancient and modern cities. And there is no better time to visit Morocco than during the Gnawa World Music Festival in the coastal town of Essaouira. A multi-day event of music, workshops and renowned artists from across the globe, this is arguably the most anticipated festival in the region.
Journey from the “Red City” of Marrakech to the salt-sprayed ramparts of Essaouira, where the ancient medina is transformed into a global stage for the Gnawa World Music Festival. This is an invitation to move beyond the main stage and into the private riads of master musicians, revealing a trance-inducing spiritual heritage through intimate workshops and exclusive artisan masterclasses. Between hypnotic performances, you’ll connect with local women’s cooperatives and master the art of Moroccan spice, discovering the soul of Morocco through a lens of deep purpose and boutique riads. An experience unlike any other!
Music, Culture & Dance
Morocco is an epicenter of Arab culture in North Africa. And during the Gnawa World Music Festival the country lights up in dance, music and art. A truly remarkable time to visit this enchanting country!
A Dialogue of Civilizations through Music
The Gnawa World Music Festival is a sensory explosion where African, Islamic, and Berber traditions converge in the seaside city of Essaouira. Once a year, this historic port town is transformed into a global stage for traditional music, attracting musicians from across the world to jam alongside Gnawa masters. It is a celebration of freedom and spirit, where the air is thick with the scent of sea salt and the relentless, trance-inducing beat of the drums.
Our curated experience ensures you don’t just witness the spectacle – you understand its significance. We’ll navigate the labyrinthine medina to find the most authentic performances, providing context to the performances and the multi-generational stories of the artists. It is a vibrant, soulful immersion into a culture that uses art as a tool for resilience and connection. Your all-access pass to the festival will allow you to explore the best of this UNESCO-designated event!
