The Discover Corps team comes from a wide variety of backgrounds, but they all share a passion for world cultures — and a belief that responsible, sustainable travel can make the world a better place.
Andrew Motiwalla, Founder & Director
Andrew served two years as a Peace Corps volunteer in Central America. His overseas volunteer experience ignited a passion to share that experience with others, and he became vice president at a non-profit international volunteer organization. There he set up volunteer operations in 10 countries around the world. Later, he did brief stints with a couple of tech start-up companies. Returning to his passion for helping connect people of different cultures, he founded Terra Education, from which Discover Corps was later born.
Alex discovered his passion for travel while studying Global & International Studies at University of California, Santa Barbara when he studied in Bangkok, Thailand. After graduation, he spent two years in Poland and Germany completing his MA in Global Studies. Since then, Alex has volunteered abroad and traveled extensively across Asia, Australia, Europe, Africa and Latin America.
A California native, Judy earned her degree from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, CA. She has held several leadership positions in the hospitality industry and was the general manager of national hotels in San Diego. Judy also loves to travel; she has volunteered abroad in Peru and Belize.
Angela Bailey, Travel Specialist
Angela was born and raised in a small fishing town in Alaska and attended the University of Alaska, Anchorage where she received a degree in International Studies. She has a passion for travel and has explored various countries throughout Central America and Southeast Asia, volunteering in community based projects in Thailand and El Salvador.
Michelle Lopez, Travel Specialist
Michelle’s passion for travel ignited when she was just a kid after she visited her family who lives in city of Tepic Nayarit, Mexico. To further pursue this interest, she earned a degree in Hospitality Management from San Diego State University. Her studies allowed her to embark on many journeys abroad; she hopes to continue expanding her travels around the world.
Chris Maradona, Travel Specialist
Chris was born in Los Angeles and has lived in the US and Costa Rica. He has his hands full with his four children. There’s nothing he loves more than spending time with his kids and wife. He also has a deep passion for technology and travel, and he enjoys helping connect travelers to meaningful experiences that they never imagined possible.
Amanda earned her degree from Illinois State University and moved out to California one week after graduation. Her career started in Search Engine Optimization where she worked from home for 4 years, and she was fortunate to be able to travel the world while working. This is where her passion for travel was finally put into practice, taking her all around the world with people she met along the way. Amanda looks forward to helping create these experiences for others through Discover Corps trips.
