South Africa – Cape Town Extension

Complement your experience in South Africa’s world-renowned wildlife reserves with a visit to the country’s cultural epicenter. Explore the Cape Town’s urban multi-cultural cafes, restaurants and townships.

Get outside of the city and take in the natural beauty of the surrounding vineyards, coastline and offshore islands.

Our Purpose

Located directly at the bottom of the African continent, Cape Town is truly at the convergence of diverse geography, landscape and cultures. Towering over the city, Table Mountain provides the natural backdrop to this cosompolitan city where cultures from Africa, Europe, the Middle East and Asia come together in a unique melting pot. Venture outside the city and uncover a rugged coastline replete with waddling penguins, vast vineyards with some of the world’s best wines and white sandy beaches.

On this 5 day/3 night post-trip extension, you’ll experience the very best that Cape Town has to offer.

What You'll Do

Over the course of 5 days, you’ll discover the natural beauty, urban sophistication and wildlife of the Cape Peninsula. After arriving in Cape Town from your South Africa wildlife experience, hit the ground running with a full city tour including its must see sights of Table Mountain, Greenmarket Square and the lush Company Gardens in the city center. Venture out of town to the offshore Robben Island one day and drive the winding coastline to witness one of South Africa’s largest penguin colonies. End the journey with your choice of a whale watching tour or a tour through the famous winelands in the valleys just inland.

What You'll See

Cape Town is a place that really takes a few days to truly uncover. Relax in the parks and cozy cafes of Cape Town in the afternoon while exploring the city’s thriving culinary scene in the evening. Hop on a bicycle and take a socially-responsible tour through a Xhosa township to meet and interact with the local community (walking tours available for those that don’t ride a bicycle). Take in the 360 degree views of the city from the top of Table Mountain then venture by boat to Robben Island, the home of South Africa’s political prisoners during Apartheid. Spend a full day venturing along the wine route sampling fine South African wines and chocolates or scouting for the Marine Big 5 including humpback whales from a boat – the choice is up to you!

Traveler's Journal

I am so glad we decided to take the extra time to visit Cape Town at the end of our South Africa journey. I had always dreamed of visiting the city and could not recommend this experience more. Our guide showed us not only the local side of Cape Town, but the amazing places that sit just outside of town – some of the best ocean views I’ve ever seen! And to end the trip with whale watching just blew my kids away. Go to Cape Town if you have the time!
