Frequently asked questions

Can Discover Corps design a trip that integrates academic curriculum and learning outcomes?

Yes. We work closely with faculty to build itineraries that serve specific academic goals — whether that’s field research, conservation study, cultural immersion, or experiential learning tied to course content.

How do you manage student safety and risk on faculty-led trips?

Safety and risk management are central to every program we run. We provide detailed risk assessments, emergency protocols, 24/7 in-country support, and vetted local guides in every destination. All travelers are covered by CISI medical insurance, and we closely monitor government travel advisories. We do not operate in destinations deemed unsafe.

Safety is embedded in how we plan, who we partner with, and the intelligence we rely on every day. We monitor global conditions in real time through Crisis24, one of the world’s leading risk and security platforms, and we’re active members of professional risk-management networks that give us access to industry-grade protocols, real-time peer intelligence, and crisis-response resources that inform every decision we make.

On the ground, every trip operates through deeply vetted local guides and partners who know their regions and know how to respond when conditions shift. Risk assessments and emergency protocols can be accessed before departure, and our operations team is available for the duration of every trip.

We understand that most universities carry their own travel insurance and risk-management requirements, and we’re experienced at working within those frameworks. CISI medical and travel coverage is available for institutions that need it, including emergency evacuation, but we’re equally comfortable coordinating alongside your existing university policies to ensure nothing falls through the cracks.

When you travel with Discover Corps, rest assured that every detail of your group’s safety has been anticipated, planned for, and is actively monitored — from the moment you book to the moment you’re home.

What documentation do you provide for university approval and compliance processes?

We provide detailed itineraries, emergency action plans, risk assessments and any additional documentation your institution’s international travel office requires. We’ve supported this process with universities before and know how to make institutional approval straightforward. All pre-departure materials are available through the Discover Corps Travel Portal.

How far in advance does a university need to begin planning a faculty-led trip?

We recommend starting the planning process at least 6-9 months in advance to allow time for itinerary design, institutional approvals, and participant enrollment. For programs with complex academic components or travel to destinations requiring advance visas, earlier is better.

How do you support faculty who are leading a group trip for the first time?

We handle all logistics, on-the-ground operations, and participant support so that faculty can focus entirely on the academic experience. We provide pre-departure briefings, a dedicated trip coordinator, and full support through the Discover Corps Travel Portal. Faculty lead the learning, we make sure everything else runs seamlessly.

Do students need vaccines or visas for Discover Corps destinations?

Visa and vaccine requirements vary by destination. We guide faculty and students through all documentation requirements, and full details are available through the Discover Corps Travel Portal. We recommend students also consult a travel health clinic ahead of departure.

What academic disciplines are a good fit for a faculty-led expedition with Discover Corps?

Our programs are well-suited for business, biology, ecology, conservation science, anthropology, international relations, cultural studies, geography, environmental science, and global health, among others. If a course benefits from immersive field experience and real-world context, we can build a program around it.
