Thailand – Bangkok Extension

Floating markets, time spent with a local family, historic temples and more, experience the energy of Thailand’s largest city on this post-trip extension.

Our Purpose

Bangkok is a city unlike any other – with tuk-tuks and people filling the streets and the smell of Pad Thai around every corner, it’s the hustle-and-bustle that brings this city to life. Marvel at gorgeous historic sites as you weave your way through the narrow city streets.

On this 3 day/2 night post-trip extension, sail up the Chao Phraya River, experience a traditional “floating market,” travel by train and boat to the majestic Wat Pro and Grand Palace, and dive deep into the local culture with a tour of a family-run workshop producing monks’ alms bowls.

What You'll Do

After an afternoon to relax, start your first evening with a stunning trip up the Chao Phraya River before enjoying dinner overlooking the glistening Wat Arun temple. After sunset, tuk tuk through the city’s historic quarter for a visit to Pak Klong Talad, one of the country’s largest fresh markets.

Day two introduces you to a more local side of Bangkok with a ride on the city’s Skytrain – mimicking the commute of many during rush hour. Visit a family-run workshop that produce monks’ alms bowls and begin to better understand life in the region. End your trip at a traditional “floating market”, including a more remote path through the quiet canals of the old floating market.

What You'll See

On your first night in the city, marvel at the famous Wat Arun temple and stroll to the temple grounds of Wat Pho for incredible picture opportunities. On day two, experience the iconic Wat Pho and Grand Palace where you’ll learn about the history and traditions of the people of Thailand.

In addition to historic temples, dive deeper into the everyday lives of those who call Bangkok home. Do as the locals do and walk through Lumpini Park for morning tea before joining local commuters on the city’s Skytrain to the quieter streets of Soi Ban Batra. Experience rural Thailand with unique boat rides through the canals. Visit the Jim Thompson House for a compound full of gorgeous gardens and buildings before the trip comes to a close.

Traveler's Journal

I chose the Wildlife Safari trip to interact with elephants initially, and I really opted for the Bangkok extension just because it was convenient for our flights – I am SO happy I did! I cannot imagine missing this city. The tuk tuks were unlike anything I’ve ever experienced, my kids loved the floating market, and just the energy of the city was something we will never forget.”
