Thailand – Chiang Mai Extension

Complement your experience in Southern Thailand with a visit to the country’s cultural capital in the North, Chiang Mai.

Our Purpose

Chiang Mai is the cultural capital of Thailand, where golden Buddhist temples and bustling markets are situated between peaceful, lush mountainsides. The streets are filled with carts selling Pad Thai, monks shuffling along temple-lined streets, and monkeys flying from tree to tree.

On this 4 day/3 night post-trip extension, experience the colorful landscapes and cultures of Northern Thailand with a cooking class, city tours, historic sites, and plenty of time to relax and enjoy the beauty of the North.

What You'll Do

Experience the charm of the evening in the city with a Chiang Mai night tour and visit to a local temple and sunset, learning about the spiritual traditions and rich heritage that make Chiang Mai so special. Watch as the monks gather for their evening prayers and be soothed by the calm sounds of their chanting. Join local devotees in lighting incense and candles, offerings of good luck and health.

In the mornings, step off the main streets to see hidden neighborhoods brimming with charm. Visit the White Hmong hilltribe, the Chang Khein Coffee Research Project, get a traditional Thai massage, and make your own Thai dish with a cooking class.

What You'll See

Although the walking tours are designed to reveal a more authentic side of the city, you’ll see all of the gorgeous historical sites and landscapes that Chiang Mai has to offer. Visit Warorot Market to sample Thai desserts and experience local life, Chiang Mai’s oldest temple Wat Chiang Man, and admire the city’s iconic Three Kinds Monument. You’ll also get a deeper look at Chiang Mai history at the Lanna Folklife Museum and the majestic Wat Chedi Luang temple.

As you venture out to the hilltribe villages, stop at Wat Phra That Doi Suthep and marvel at the exquisite gilded stupa, or golden Buddah. Situated on a mountain rising high above the city, this sacred pagoda offers fantastic vies of Chiang Mai from above.

Traveler's Journal

I started my trip on the Wildlife Safari in Phuket, but I knew I wanted to get a bigger taste of the culture in addition to the wildlife. This extension offered the right amount of relaxation after the longer portion of the trip, but showed me all of the sites and then some! The temples were gorgeous, and the hillsides looked like I had stepped into a painting. Truly a beautiful part of Thailand I’m glad I didn’t miss!
