Trinidad and Cienfuegos are two of Cuba’s most iconic colonial-style towns. Known as the “Pearl of the South”, Cienfuegos is a place where France meets the Caribbean. Here you’ll find Parisian style architecture surrounding a spectacular natural bay. Down the coast is Trinidad, a unique, perfectly preserved Spanish colonial settlement that is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This post-trip extension begins in Havana before quickly heading out to these two must-see Cuban cities.
For history buffs, a stop along the way at the Bay of Pigs is essential for viewing the past through the Cuban perspective. Enjoy a guided tours of both Trinidad and Cienfuegos along with a private salsa class and free time to explore the colonial squares of these two charming cities.
Extend Your Journey in Cuba
The journey to Cienfuegos and Trinidad is a wonderful addition to your Cuba experience. See a different side of the island and get to know these two colonial-style cities which embrace a different aspect of Cuban culture.
Where You’ll Stay
Like the main portion of the trip, you’ll have the unique opportunity to stay in casas particulares, which literally translates as private homes. Casas are essentially family-run bed & breakfasts (think AirBnB’s with private breakfast in the morning). Families invest in making sure their houses are up to international quality standards, and they greet you with Cuban hospitality – but also give you the privacy and comfort you desire.
While houses vary in style from eclectic to classical, they all provide a comfortable glimpse into Cuban life. Our portfolio of casas particulares are hand selected with prime locations that will put you right in heart of the action and have private bathrooms, air conditioning & a fresh breakfast each morning.
Begin the extension from Havana and head south to the other side of the island. Along the way, take in the natural surroundings of the Cuban countryside and make a stop at the iconic Bay of Pigs. Arrive in Cienfuegos for lunch and an afternoon tour of this French-inspired city that sits on a tranquil bay.
Continue to Trinidad where we’ll settle into our casa for the evening and have dinner together in town. The following day, we’ll take a guided tour through the colorful alleyways of Trinidad. Learn a few steps at a private salsa class before a free dinner in the evening. Head back to Havana the next day for your flight home.
