About Native Energy

Since 2000, NativeEnergy has worked with hundreds of organizations to develop authentic solutions to their sustainability challenges and implement community-scale projects that reduce greenhouse gas emissions, strengthen businesses, and contribute to progress around the world.

To do this, Native Energy specializes in carbon offset projects, which are a practical and effective way to address climate change and encourage the growth of renewable energy. They offer businesses and individuals the opportunity to counteract their personal carbon emissions—or “carbon footprint”—while contributing to a more sustainable future.

General Advantages of Carbon Offsets

  • Offset Your Emissions
Most forms of travel generate emissions in the form of Carbon (CO2). To combat this, we calculate the emissions from your vacation and present you with the option of offsetting them through the beneficial projects mentioned below.
  • Beneficial Projects
Play a role in funding projects that support local communities and protect the environment.

About the Project Your Donation Supports

The performance of our carbon offset project is independently verified under one of several carbon offset project standards, such as the Verified Carbon Standard, Climate Action Reserve, American Carbon Registry, Plan Vivo or Gold Standard.

Below is the project we have carefully selected to offer to our travelers:

Brazil Forestry Project:

Your contribution to this project helps protect 500,000 acres of tropical rainforest in Brazil. Further, it reduces deforestation-related carbon emissions, mitigates climate change, and conserves important habitat areas for native endemic species. Local communities also benefit from increased employment opportunities and agricultural training. Learn more about the project here.

Criteria to Become an Official Carbon Offset Project

To meet the requirements of the standards (see above), the project developer has to demonstrate, among other things, that the project would not have been possible without the opportunity to receive payments for the offset credits – in other words, that the project would not have “happened anyway.” A carbon offset program only has value if it has been proved that the project would not have been possible without the opportunity for carbon investments. This is known as the rule of additionality. All carbon offset projects that NativeEnergy offers to Discover Corps must meet the requirement of additionality.
